Sterling John Moritz, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
He was born July 24, 1921 on a farm 13 miles south of Eustis, Nebraska to John Fredrick and Lucy (Puls) Moritz. Sterling attended country school in Frontier County. He was united in marriage to Hazel A. Hess on September 6, 1940 at Elwood, Nebraska. Two sons were blessed to this marriage; Sterling, Jr. (Joe) and Gary.
Sterling farmed for several years, worked for the Rosenberg Company and trucked for R.T. Hansen. It was during his years with R.T. Hansen that he broke his back and a long recovery forced him to re-evaluate his life and decided to go into business for himself hauling livestock to packing plants throughout the Midwest.
He enjoyed sports, especially major league baseball, Lexington Legion baseball, golfing, bowling and loved watching his great-
grandson, Trever, play football. Sterling also enjoyed going to the Lexington Grand Generation Center every day where he met friends and enjoyed visiting, playing pool and cards. He played a mean game of cribbage and bridge.
Sterling was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington.

Two sisters: Donna and husband Buck Lehman of Juniata, NE
Berdina Houlden of Elwood, Nebraska
Six grandchildren: Debra (Dave) Gurney of Waterford, MI; Cheryl Moritz and husband Ken Kahn of Fort Myers Beach, FL; Gwen (Randy) Graham of Sandy, UT; Todd Moritz of Lexington, NE; Kristi (Kenny) Moyer of Lexington, NE; and Rob (Tanja) Jones of Omaha, Nebraska
Four great-grandchildren: Emily & Sarah Graham of Sandy, UT; Trever Miller of Lexington, NE; and Lane Miller of Baytown, TX
Special Friend: Myra Ringenberg of Lexington, NE
Sterling was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel in 2003; four brothers, Ralph, Fredrick, Paul & Kenny and three sisters, LaVerne, Susan & Detta
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Dean Hanson officiating.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 2, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Grand Generation Center, the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the Lexington Legion Baseball Program
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Lexington
