Virginia Alice Walston

Virginia A. Walston, 91, of Elwood, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, died Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Lexington Regional Health Center. She was born on March 24, 1920, to John H. and Mary Ellen (Cronin) Leonard, in Atlanta, Nebraska. Virginia grew up in the Beaver City area and graduated from Beaver City High School in 1940. Following graduation, Virginia moved to Lexington where she met Dale Walston, the couple was married in Ventura, California on April 3, 1942. One daughter was blessed to this marriage; Barbara. Virginia worked at the Dritt Taylor’s Texaco Station, she then worked as a bookkeeper for the Freight Terminal for fifteen years and also worked at the Minutemen Motel for eleven years. She spent the majority of her time caring for her family. The family lived in Lexington until 1993, and then moved to Elwood, Nebraska. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lexington. She was always very active in the church, teaching Sunday school and was co-chairmen and treasurer of the Women’s Council. She also taught Vacation Bible School. Virginia was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. Virginia loved to garden, play Domino’s and marbles. She enjoyed traveling with Dale in their RV where they spent winters down in Texas. She also loved her cat “Sidney”. Virginia is survived by her husband: Dale Walston of Elwood, Nebraska One daughter: Barbara Burk and Don Smith of Elwood, Nebraska Two brothers: Ray and wife June Leonard of Yuba City, California John and wife Nancy Leonard of Folson, California Four grandchildren: Brandi Riese of Phoenix, Arizona; Jami and husband Kasey Burrows of Texas; Linsey Burk of Funk, Nebraska and Charli Burk of Elwood, Nebraska. Three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Florence; three brothers, Harold, Donald and Dale. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October, 26, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah, officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Christian Church or Lexington Volunteer Fire Department. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
