Junior E. Roberts, 83, of rural Eddyville, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born December 4, 1927 at Kimball, Nebraska to Ray and Amelia (Mikkelson) Roberts. Junior grew up and attended school in Weld County, Colorado and moved to Eddyville after marrying Sarah M. (Warner) Wiley on November 12, 1977, at Eddyville. Sarah brought three children to the marriage; Wes, Sandra and Barbara. Junior so enjoyed having a large family, and spending time with the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Junior’s nieces and nephews have always also held a special place in his heart. Junior proudly served his Country in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from January 18, 1952 until his honorable discharge on January 17, 1954. He farmed and raised cattle and enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of his livestock. Junior is survived by his three stepchildren: Wes (Kay) Wiley of Lexington, NE. Sandra (Kenny) Burr of Sumner, NE and Barbara (Dave) Burr of Eddyville, NE. Two sisters: Maryann Frederick of Kimball, NE. Dorothy Jean (Herb) Eckas of Greeley, CO. Ten step-grandchildren, eighteen step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Junior was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sarah, in 2008; sister, Elsie Farley and 2 brothers-in-law, Doug Frederick and Keith Farley. The family has honored Junior’s wishes that his body be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 24, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eddyville Community Center in Eddyville, Nebraska with Reverend Doug Jones officiating. There will also be Military Honors by the Sumner/Eddyville American Legion. Memorials are suggested to the Eddyville Community center, the Eddyville Fire Department or the Sumner Rescue Unit.
