David Ray Hodgson

David R. Hodgson, 60, of rural Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at his home. David was born May 15, 1951, at Lexington, Nebraska to L. Arbor and Fern Iola (Bell) Hodgson. He grew up on the family farm east of Lexington and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1969, while in high school David played football. He then went on to further his education at Kearney State College where he received his BA and Master’s Degrees in Math. Dave taught for 14 years; two years at Petersburg, Nebraska and twelve years at Callaway. He was united in marriage to Marlene Bartels on July 26, 1985, at Hastings, Nebraska. Three sons were blessed to this marriage; Joel, Jared and Justin. In 1988, he took over the farming and ranching operation from his father. He also substitute taught for a time. David’s life revolved around his family and he never missed a sporting event his sons were involved in. He loved his family so much and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife: Marlene Hodgson of Lexington, Nebraska Three sons: Joel, Jared & Justin Hodgson all of Lexington, Nebraska Two brothers: Lennis and wife Diane Hodgson of Kearney, Nebraska Pastor Steven and wife Jeannie Hodgson of Hutchinson, Kansas One adopted brother: Richard Hodgson of Pueblo, Colorado Mother-in-law: Della Sergeant of Kearney, Nebraska One brother-in-law: Merlyn and wife Pat Bartels of Upland, Nebraska David is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone Berean Church in Kearney, Nebraska with Pastor Doug Shada officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery at Overton. Visitation will be held Monday, October 3, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
