James Earl Jewett

James Earl Jewett, 70, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011, the result of a car accident southeast of Lexington, Nebraska. He was born March 30, 1941, at Smithfield, Nebraska to Thomas Rufus and Mary Ethel (Brown) Jewett. He attended country school at District #48 and then high school at Overton. Jim was involved in the family farm prior to and following graduation until he entered the United States Army and following his return to Nebraska. Jim valiantly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from February 15, 1967, until his honorable discharge on February 14, 1969. He received commendations while serving in Vietnam along with being awarded the Bronze Star w/Device and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device. He was united in marriage to Jean Cook in February of 1968, Virginia. The couple returned to Nebraska and three children were blessed to this marriage; Jamie, Shane and Christina. Throughout Jim’s life he was active in the farming operation, worked construction and retired from Paulsen Construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling, playing cards, telling stories and sharing his wonderful sense of humor. Jim is survived by his three children: Jamie and husband Peter Celio of Woodbridge, VA; Shane Jewett and fiancée Jessica Peche of Alexandria, VA; Christina and husband James Taylor of Fredericksburg, VA.. Five grandchildren: Matthew Celio, Dominick Celio, Bianca Jewett, Shane Jewett and Jaidyn Jewett Seven brothers: Donald and wife Belva Jewett of Holbrook NE; C. Thomas and wife Doralice Jewett of University Place, WA; Paul Jewett of Overton, NE; Roger Jewett of Forest Grove, OR; David and wife Connie Jewett of Lexington, NE; Ron Jewett of Kearney, NE; and Rod Jewett of Overton, NE. One sister: Marie and husband Bill Peden of Orleans, NE. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and one brother. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Overton Christian Church in Overton, Nebraska with Pastor Will Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska, Friday, October 7, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Jewett Family for later designation.
