Evelyn H. Feist, 91, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Gothenburg, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney surrounded by her loving daughters.
She was born January 5, 1920, at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Harm M. and Emma (Cross) Franzen, the first of four daughters. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg where she was baptized in 1920 and confirmed in 1932. Evelyn’s faith was strong and always walked with the Lord by her side.
Evelyn graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1938. She worked for child welfare in Lexington from 1938-1940 and lived in Wyoming from 1940-1942. She then moved to Denver and worked in the Defense Plant from 1942-1945. She was united in marriage to Aloysius F. Feist in Gothenburg, Nebraska on April 17, 1943. Two girls were blessed to this marriage; Alberta Lea and Sandra Kay.
Evelyn graduated from the North Platte Beauty Academy and later opened up her own beauty shop in Gothenburg, called Evelyn’s Beauty Shop. She would operate her shop from 1957 until 1989 when she retired. During this time she also helped at McVay Mortuary and Blasé Funeral Home in Gothenburg. Upon retiring, she helped local families care for their children in their own homes. These kids were a pure joy to her and maintained contact even today. She also loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kids were her greatest joy.
She enjoyed embroidery, cross stitch and handiwork. Evelyn always enjoyed a good hand of cards and attending the community concerts with her friends after retirement. She will be so very missed. She never knew a stranger and always accepted people just as they were.

Four grandchildren and spouses: Loretta (Keith) Anderson of Overton, Nebraska; Lynette (Buck) Dannar of Williston, North Dakota; Natasha (Phil) Hamm of Grand Island, Nebraska; Wade (Rhonda) Kearney of Sumner, Nebraska
Thirteen great-grandchildren: Tyson, Chelsey, Dawson, Quinton, Walker, Hanna, Harlee, Brandon, Elizabeth, Rachael, Christyn, Annalea & Matthew
One sister: Myra Walker of Kearney, Nebraska
Evelyn was survived by two nieces and one nephew, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Verniece Adle and Lorraine Crawford and one nephew, Harry (Butch) Crawford.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Reverend Craig Whitson officiating.
Burial will be in the Jewell Cemetery at Sumner, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
