Henry Carl Schilling

Henry Carl Schilling, 96, of Elwood, Nebraska, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, Nebraska. Henry was born December 13, 1914 to Henry and Wilhelmina (Ubele) Schilling at their homestead in Gosper County. He went to a rural school in Dawson County. Henry married Lois Catherine Kolb on March 14, 1936. The marriage was blessed with 3 sons and 2 daughters. They lived and worked on the family farm all their married lives of 69 years. He enjoyed being on the farm with his family. In his younger years he planted and harvested crops and raised cattle. Henry was baptized as one of Jehovah Witnesses on May 14, 1944. He valued his association with the Christian congregation at the Kingdom Hall in Lexington and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. Survivors include two sons: Ron and wife Joyce Schilling of Elwood, Nebraska Jim Schilling of Savannah, Missouri Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One nephew: Lon Schilling of Wallkill, New York One niece: Janet Haas of Gothenburg, Nebraska One daughter-in-law: Veleta Schilling of Platte City, Missouri Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois in 2005, a daughter Nancy Schroeder in 2004, a son Lee Schilling of Platte City, Missouri in February 2011, a sister, Martha Wolf and her husband John of Eustis, Nebraska; a brother, Fred and wife Mildred of Elwood, Nebraska and an infant daughter, Ruth Ann. It was Henry’s wishes that his body be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral home in Lexington, Nebraska with Daryl Wyatt officiating. Inurnment will be held prior to the Memorial Service in the Elwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Elwood Senior Center or the Donor’s Choice. The Schilling family wishes to express our gratitude and thank you for all your loving support and expressions of comfort during this difficult time.
