Rose A. McCarter

July 13, 1932 — July 3, 2011

Rose A. McCarter, 78, of Overton, Nebraska, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at her home after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was born July 13, 1932 at Hamill, South Dakota to John and Anna (Karas) Petersek. On August 2, 1950 she married Glenn McCarter, Sr. at Bridgeport, Nebraska. They were blessed with 6 children; Bonnie, Glenn, Jr., Michael, Daniel, Kelly and John. In 1953 they moved to the Overton area. Rose worked most of her life. She worked for Plectron, Eatons, Buckle Warehouse, and the Overton Public School. Rosie lived for family get-togethers, especially Husker football games. Her “Husker Room” was built so the family could enjoy these games together. There was nothing she loved more than to cheer on the Huskers with her family and friends. Sports were an important part of her life. She was proud of and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in their sports. Rosie even made it to some of the great-grandchildren’s sporting events. She followed the Overton Eagles, whether her children were playing or not, and was named Booster of the Year in 1994-1995 and 2010-2011. Rose couldn’t wait for spring so she could fill her deck with flowers. She loved her roses and petunias. She enjoyed playing cards, a good steak and birthday cake. Rosie always wanted to go for walks, and would lovingly encourage others to join her. Her last request was to go for a “walk”. We tried to deter her, but we always knew Rosie gets her way, so…we went for a walk.
