Robert H. Vinzant, 83, of Elwood, Nebraska, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
He was born March 13, 1928, on a farm south of Smithfield, Nebraska to Hugh & Bertha (Hibbs) Vinzant. Robert attended country school, District #46, south of Smithfield. As a young man he picked corn for 10 cents a bushel and then went on to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for ten years.
On June 13, 1954, he married Irma Mae Lyons in Lexington, Nebraska. To this union two sons were adopted in love forty years ago on the 14th of June, Kevin and Gary. The family lived in Lexington until 1963 when they moved to Gosper County.
Robert spent the majority of his life farming. He farmed for Loren & Herman Hock and when Joe Bellamy bought the farm, Robert stayed on as his hired man. He worked on the farm for 30 years.
He was a member of the Elwood United Methodist church. Robert enjoyed playing cards and vacationing in California, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.
Robert his survived by his two sons: Kevin and wife Patricia Vinzant of Houston, Texas
Gary and wife Jodie Vinzant of Midway Lake, Nebraska
Two grandsons: Mathew and Lucas Vinzant of Lincoln, Nebraska as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irma, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Elwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Connie Karr, officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Burial will be held in the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Elwood.
