Lester I. Wood, 88, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, formerly of Mason City, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He was born September 23, 1922, at Buffalo, Nebraska, to Charles Timothy and Myrtle K. (Feddersen) Wood. Lester was the oldest of 12 children and helped take care of his younger siblings. Lester was a graduate of Oconto High School and during his working years; he worked for the Pentagon in Washington D.C. during WWII, worked for area ranchers, owned and operated the Apco filling station in Lexington and retired from Cornland Dressed Beef in Lexington. He was united in marriage to Cathern Clark on November 20, 1971, at Lexington. Lester was a kind man who loved being with his family, tending his garden, fishing, camping, being outdoors, cutting wood, and attending rodeos. When the couple was younger they enjoyed going dancing. Lester was a member of the Berean Bible Church in Lexington and enjoyed being involved with Awanas, where he was their leader for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Eagles Club. Survivors include one daughter: Rita (Paul) Leibhart of Overton, Nebraska One son: Jerald (Stacia) Wood of California Stepchildren: Vicky (Chuck) Flint of Overton, Nebraska Barbara (Keith) Pickering of Arkansas Jacky (Tammy) Ward of Colorado Two brothers: Gary (Marty) Wood of Chappell, Nebraska Rod (Sandy) Wood of Lexington, Nebraska Three sisters: Donna Stack of Cheyenne, Wyoming Clarice (Fritz) Kleinknecht of Callaway, Nebraska Joyce (Darrell) Stack of North Platte, Nebraska Lester was also survived nineteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cathern on May 14, 2011; three brothers, Ken, Allan, Charles and one infant brother; two sisters, Norma and Audrey; one great-granddaughter, Sara; one stepson, David. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery at Overton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
