Dorothy Miller, 86, of Callaway, Nebraska, slipped away quietly during the early morning of 22 April 2011, at her home in Callaway.
Dorothy was born 11 February 1925, in Glasgow, Scotland, to John and Ethel Wallace. She always lived a life to be admired, full, happy and loved.
At age 14, she graduated high school and entered the work force as a stenographer. She fell in love and married a Yankee soldier named Henry Miller in July of 1945. They married in Scotland and 9 months later she arrived in America on a ship with other war brides. She then continued by train to Gothenburg, Nebraska where she was embraced and loved by the Miller clan. Henry and Dorothy purchased a farm/ranch south of Callaway, where they raised their four children; Brian, Elaine, Dorothy & Glen.
Dorothy loved her clubs, her cards and her church. She was a people person and loved life and was gifted at writing words of encouragement. She was so proud of her Scottish heritage, but adapted well to rural life in Nebraska and there was no place she would rather live. However, she was always up for any trip or vacation with family or friends.
Each new grandchild and great-grandchild brought a new blessing and joy to her life and she felt so fortunate be loved and have her family live so near.
Dorothy’s zest for life was contagious and she always chose joy.
Left to mourn are her children:
Brian and Sheryl Miller of Johnson Lake, Nebraska
Elaine and Bob Lynch of Lexington, Nebraska
Dorothy (Dot) and Gary Wall of Holdrege, Nebraska
Glen and Teri Miller of Callaway, Nebraska]
Her two brothers: Maurice and Eric Wallace who live in Scotland
Twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1977.
The family has honored Dorothy’s wishes that her body be cremated. There will be no visitation.
