Buster Bodfield, 60, of Upland, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
He was born July 22, 1950, at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Paul and Audrey (Wilcox) Bodfield. Following school, Buster served his Country in the Vietnam War from April 18, 1968, through January 19, 1971. As a U.S. Marine, Buster served two tours in South Vietnam. He was wounded twice and awarded the Purple Heart for both actions. After leaving the Marines, Buster joined the U.S. Army for one enlistment. He was honorably discharged from both services. Buster received numerous other achievement and service awards, including the United States Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor Device and two Purple Hearts.
Upon his return from the service Buster was united in marriage to Linda Lundock on June 24, 1972, at Sterling, Colorado. Two sons were blessed to this marriage; Jamie and Rob. They returned to Lexington in 1975. Buster worked for Cadwell Construction and Orthman Manufacturing. He did carpentry work his entire life and was skilled with his hands. Later in life he worked as a bouncer at the Blue Lounge in Lexington, some of his fondest memories and friendships were made during this time.
Buster was then united in marriage to Brenda Rapp on August 22, 1997, at Lexington, Nebraska. They moved to Minden, Nebraska shortly thereafter. In Minden he was employed by Wardcraft Homes, again making use of his carpentry skills. He welcomed Brenda’s two children; Jennifer and Richie Workman.
Buster’s family was the core of who he was. He was active in his children’s activities and enjoyed nothing more than watching them race motocross, play football and wrestle. He also loved to coach their ball teams. He enjoyed fishing, especially taking his grandson; hunting, target practice, but most especially, spending time with all the family together.
