James G. O’Donnell, 80, of Lexington, Nebraska, died March 14, 2011, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born on March 18, 1930, to James V. & Esther (Grantham) O’Donnell in Lexington, Nebraska. Jim went to grade school in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1948. Following High School, he earned a degree from Colorado State University at Ft. Collins in 1952. Jim met his wife in Ft. Collins and were married on October 12, 1952, in Ft. Collins. Four children were born to this union: Coleen, Terry, Kevin & Kathy.
The couple moved to Lexington, Nebraska in 1953. Jim was a banker and worked at Farmers State Bank for almost twenty years. Following his time at the bank, James worked various odd jobs to tinkering on his classic cars. He then married Jackie. They would later divorce.
Jim was a past president of the Lexington Jaycee’s, member of the Chamber of Commerce, Eagles Club, First United Methodist Church & Goldenrod Antique Auto Club. He also donated to numerous charities.
He loved his cars and cards. Jim was a Dodge man and loved collecting classic cars from the thirties. He enjoyed taking his cars and driving them through various parades, and going on tours and to National events. James also enjoyed Nascar, he was one of the founding members to bring Dawson County Speedway to Lexington. He looked forward to playing cards with his friends every week. Family was important to Jim as well. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two sons: Terry and wife Diane O’Donnell of Cozad, Nebraska
Kevin and wife Annette O’Donnell of Seward, Nebraska
Two daughters: Coleen and husband Dave Storjohann of Lexington, Nebraska
Kathy and husband Bill Long of Lexington, Nebraska
One sister: Kathleen Walton of Bowie, Maryland
Fourteen grandchildren and Thirteen great-grandchildren.
Three nephews, extended family and many friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Margaret and his second wife Jackie, one infant grandson Adam.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at 10:30 at First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Tess Hufford, officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 18, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
