Carrol "Carol" Elizabeth Jensen

Carrol “Carol” Elizabeth Jensen, 80, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at her home in Fullerton, California surrounded by her husband, Ed and daughters, Sue & Tricia. Carol was born July 1, 1930, on a farm southeast of Lexington to Clarence J. and Eva R. (Luckinbill) Sherman. She was a 1947 graduate of Elm Creek High School and attended business school in Lincoln. Carol was married to LeRoy “Ward” Batie on October 3, 1948, at the Overton United Methodist Church and they lived on the family farm northeast of Overton. Two daughters, Sue Batie and Patricia “Tricia” Luse were born to this union. Ward died of Polio on November 7, 1954, and following his death, Carol, Sue, & Tricia moved to Lexington. In 1958, they moved to San Pedro, California. On July 4, 1980, Carol married Edward “Ed” J. Jensen at the La Mirada (CA) United Methodist Church. Ed brought his two daughters, Kathryn and Karoline into the family. Carol and Ed enjoyed a trip to Denmark, visiting the birthplace of Ed’s father, a trip to Alaska, and most recently a trans-Canadian rail trip with Ed’s brother, sister-in-law and niece. The couple also traveled to Texas to visit Ed’s daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as other Texas relatives. Carol, Sue, & Tricia enjoyed their annual trips to Nebraska to visit family and friends, whether it was by airplane, train, or car. Survivors include, in addition to Ed, Sue, Tricia, Kathryn Hullum, and Karoline (Paul) Mantz, by her two special “adopted” daughters, Jin Yang and Hannah Lim, their husbands, and her five “adopted” grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Gary (Carol) Sherman of Ceresco and Frank Sherman of Overton, brother-in-law, Robert Beran of Slidell, LA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Soren and Lynde Jensen of Bellevue, WA, an aunt, Carroll Sherman of Kearney, two uncles, Fred Peister of Kearney and Joseph O’Dea of Slidell, LA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her best friend since 8th grade, Jane Snider of Lexington and a host of other very dear friends. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Ward, her parents, her sister Clarice Beran, her fathers and mothers-in-law, Roy & Beulah Batie and Soren & Eula Jensen, sister-in-law RoseMary Sherman, sister-in-law, Louise Wells, and brother & sister-in-law, Howard & Marge Jensen, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, a great-nephew, and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Overton, Nebraska with Reverend Katherine Bullard officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery at Overton. Visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at the Overton Funeral Home in Overton.
